The municipality of The Hague submitted a proposition to purchase Aegon's old headquarters for the House of Cyber; a national center for cybersecurity knowledge sharing, innovation and collaboration. The House of Cyber is part of the Dutch Cybersecurity Strategy for 2022-2028.
The House of Cyber is a partnership in which, among others, the National Cyber Security Center (NCSC), the Ministry of Defense, TNO and the Security Delta Foundation (HSD) will work together to strengthen national digital resilience. The strong security and cybersecurity cluster in The Hague contributes to The Hague's international position as a city of peace and justice.
After an exploration, the municipality of The Hague has identified the former Aegon headquarters on Aegonplein as the ideal location. The building has been empty since the end of 2025, after ASR took over Aegon's Dutch insurance business and moved it to Utrecht. The city council must agree to the proposal by 16 March. A total of EUR 60 million will be earmarked for the purchase and renovation.
The Security Delta HSD Campus, where the Digital Security Institute is located, is also planning to move to the new House of Cyber. The name of Aegonplein will then logically have to change. Originally, this was the Mariahoeve plein. In 1985, Aegon established its headquarters and concluded an agreement with the municipality of The Hague to rename the square to Aegonplein. This involved a 20-year agreement with Aegon maintaining the square as a condition. A new name like Cyberplein, resilience plein?
We will let you know in due course what the new address of Digital Security Institute will be!
